YELLOW SQUASH | DARJEELING TEA | WATERMELON RIND

Meet Adena, part of our Best of Ibis Indonesia Exploration Series, highlighting the depth, diversity, and beauty of Indonesian coffees inspired by Tom’s 2025 trip to Indonesia.

This coffee comes from Kampung Kenawa in Aceh, a remarkable growing region known for producing coffees with layered, unmistakably Indonesian character. This lot was triple-picked at origin, meaning it was carefully sorted by hand three separate times during processing to create an exceptionally high-quality coffee.

Adena is the name of the export company that helps coordinate the complex logistics producers face when transporting their crop, creating greater access and better earnings for producers, 70% of whom are women.

Once in our hands, we roasted Adena to a gentle medium-light to highlight its complex yet approachable character. The cup opens with the mild sweetness of yellow squash, bringing a soft, buttery, almost nutty quality. A heavy yet tea-like body follows with notes of Darjeeling tea, offering the complexity of black tea with a softer, fruitier edge. Lingering in the finish is a clean, crisp hint of watermelon rind, a refreshing close that calls back to the warmth of summer.
